Klimat: Russia in the age of climate change

Book review by Marianna Poberezhskaya who describes it as as a ‘must read’ for

anyone who wants to understand exactly what drives Russia’s emissions (and therefore, how they can be contained) as well as the fundamentals of Russia’s economy and its current inner politics (including informal and formal arrangements impacting key state decisions). Following the book’s title and its first chapter, it is fair to assume that the main objective of the work is to shed light on how climate change will be affected by and in turn affect Russia, but in fact, it does even more than that. Whilst reflecting on the history and the current state of Russia’s climate science and politics at the beginning of the book, most of the manuscript is structured around key industries that directly contribute to and are likely to be impacted by climate change and related regulations. For example, Russian oil, gas, coal, nuclear, renewables, agriculture, and metals sectors all have a chapter each.
